What is The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP)?

Demonstrated benefits for individuals with trauma, anxiety, sensory processing differences and more.

Suitable for children and adults

Can be done in conjunction with regular talk therapy

The SSP involves listening to specifically filtered music through headphones alongside a provider in-person or remotely. As a practical application of Polyvagal Theory, the SSP acts as a non-invasive,
acoustic vagal nerve stimulator, helping to retune the nervous system to better support connection, collaboration and resilience.

What to Expect:
  • Reduced sound sensitivity
  • Better social connection and deeper relationships
  • Emotional regulation and nervous system support
  • Greater capacity to respond to stress without overwhelm

Please note:
  • SSP is not covered by insurance or HSA/FSA benefits
  • A consultation with Mikaela Courchesne is required to determine whether Safe and Sound Protocol is the right fit

SSP is a 5-hour intervention, completed in incremental sessions. While therapy involves clinical treatment and deep psychological processing, coaching is a collaborative, body-based process that helps you implement strategies for personal growth. Somatic Coaching does not include trauma processing or diagnosis.

SSP may be a good fit if you experience:
  • Overwhelm by daily stress
  • Chronic Hypervigilance
  • Sound Sensitivities (i.e. loud sounds startle you)
  • Social Fatigue
  • Are in therapy but still feel something is off

Safe and Sound Protocol is an evidence-based listening therapy designed to regulate the nervous system. Through specially-filtered music, SSP signals safety to the nervous system which results in building a foundation for better social connection, emotional regulation and resilience and ultimately, greater capacity to handle stress.

We would love to come alongside you in your healing.
Together, we can create a path of renewal and hope.

If fear of judgment has kept you from discussing your experience, you’re not alone! Having no one to confide in results in us dealing with our feelings in isolation, which can interfere with the healing process. If you’ve noticed that coping with everyday reminders of past trauma is taking a toll on your wellbeing, it may be time to talk with a professional.

We can’t erase what has happened in the past, but we can work together to promote healing; using effective techniques for processing memories and emotions, working through triggers, and restoring health and balance to the emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual parts of yourself.

Providing a safe space for health, wellness and renewal.
